Contact Lenses And Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis

By Javier Fuller Wearing contact lenses is such a pleasant and comfortable experience that only a few of us want to hear any bad news about any serious side affects of using the contacts over an extended period of time. For the most part, wearing contacts is virtually harmless. But if you have been careless about cleaning and disinfecting your lenses, it's high time you pay attention to it because protein deposits on the contacts can cause Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis (GPS). GPS is an allergic reaction to either the chemical of the contact lens or the cleaning solution used. So, not only should you clean and disinfect regularly but should also be careful about the kind of solution being used to clean your lens. Those who are thinking of going for contacts must make sure that the material of which the lenses are made suits them. Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis causes white lumps or giant papillae on the inside of the upper eyelids, and may cause extensive scarring barring you from using the contacts any further. Changing the contacts or the solution, whichever is the guilty party, may bring some relief, but you'll still need to stop wearing your lenses. In such cases, the best way is to find out if you are fit for LASIK, and if you are, go for it. However, it is not to say that a person affected by GPC is prohibited from wearing contacts for life, but certain precautions have to be taken to avoid recurrence. Contacts with low water content work for limited use coupled with strict lens hygiene. One may also consider switching to the gas permeable variety, which lessens the chances of the GPC. There are a few stabilizing agents that may also be helpful in checking inflammation. GPC is definitely a serious affliction and may create some very real problems for the contacts users. Prevention is the best cure in this case, too. It is important that you clean and disinfect the lens properly besides changing it frequently because protein deposits can be cleaned only to a certain extent, which means the more often you change your lenses, the lesser the chances of your suffering from the GPC. So, just be a little careful and the contacts will stay with you for life without trouble. What The Wisest Man On Earth Said About Giving To The Poor And How You'll Benefit From Doing It

By Matthew Robert Payne One day as I ate a hamburger in Mc Donalds a homeless man saw my Bible and asked me if he could show me a passage. He turned to this following passage and shared some of his wisdom with me. Today many poor people steal just to get by, many people addicted to drugs steal our goods to finance their habits. I dont condone addicted lifestyles but I dont despise them as I was addicted to prostitutes for twenty years. Proverbs 30:7-9
7 Two things I request of You (Deprive me not before I die): 8 Remove falsehood and lies far from me; Give me neither poverty nor riches Feed me with the food allotted to me; 9 Lest I be full and deny You, And say, Who is the LORD? Or lest I be poor and steal, And profane the name of my God. There is much wisdom in this proverb. Many people who have riches seem to deny the LORD in their life and yet its mostly to the poor that have the richest faith. There are many poor Christians in the world, there is a need for some 200 million Bibles in just China and Africa. Those poor cries might not reach your ears, but the Word of God understood and applied will make them rich if you send them a Bible.
Okay, who is going to pay you back if you give to the poor? We have all heard if you give preachers your tithe or sow into a ministry that there is a return blessing from the LORD but will the LORD repay us for our mercy on the poor we meet. Proverbs 19:17
17 He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD, And He will pay back what he has given. Did you read that? When you lend the poor money it is the Lord God Almighty that you are lending the money to. And the Lord God Almighty is no mans debtor. In the past six years I have given about five thousand dollars to the poor of my city and in one year my brother bought me $1500 worth of computer, $1000 sofa bed, and my parents payed for me to go on a short ministry trip to my favourite country India to preach and meet the wonderful Christians there which cost $3000. Over hundreds and hundreds of gifts to poor people were swiftly re-paid five years later with these three gifts from my loved ones. Jesus spoke of giving to the hungry, and the taking the homeless in the sheep and the goats parable and said that we were not giving it to the person who asked in our love, but we were giving it to Him. The king or leader of a country who establishes justice and equity for the poor and looks out for them will be established. Proverbs 29:14 (New King James Version)
14 The king who judges the poor with truth, His throne will be established forever. That is a good promise! How is your government treating the poor in court in social justice? Do you think you are a generous sort of person? Proverbs 22:9 (New King James Version) 9 He who has a generous eye will be blessed, For he gives of his bread to the poor. If you exercise your generosity with the poors needs you will be blessed. You wont be short of money, you will be blessed. Some people dont like to feed an addicts sin. That is like giving me the money to spend on a prostitute when I was still stuck in my addiction. But drinkers and gamblers in many cases have starving families and a food parcel cant be gambled and drunk by that father.
Proverbs 10:3 (New King James Version) 3 The LORD will not allow the righteous soul to famish, But He casts away the desire of the wicked. The LORD has been good to me even in my years of disobedience when I was not in any way righteous. But perhaps there is a righteous soul in your church that the LORD wants you to bless with $20 this week. Youll be surprised at how thankful a desperate person can be for just $20 and how strong a bond can be formed. I bought a poor person a Caf Latte and he wont ever let me forget it and every time he sees me he wants me to know one day hell take me out for coffee and cake. There is more joy in seeing a poor person blessed in a crisis than your new worship CD this week. Some people see the homeless and say he gets charity, he should get his life together and get on with it and pass by in judgment of the guy down on his luck like the Pharisee in the Good Samaritan parable. Beware Jesus brought this proverb to light in his parable. Proverbs 17:5 (New King James Version) 5 He who mocks the poor reproaches his Maker; He who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished. Be sure you dont judge the poor and reproach the living God! Who made you judge? The Good Samaritan parable should really make most people feel guilty. If you have poor where you can see, take them a present and give them some food. These promises will stand true. Many people say I cant tithe my ten percent and give more money to the poor. Surely the poor will always be with us. That is because the road is narrow that leads to life and men do not change without the resurrection power of the Holy Spirit. Sadly the poor are still with us when the richer Christians of the world could do a great deal more to change that. But if you are faithful God will look after you. He promises so. Proverbs 28:20 (New King James Version) 20 A faithful man will abound with blessings, But he who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished. Even my disability pension from the Australian government is eight times the salary of a full time driver in India. So I am rich in comparison to them. Seven dollars can bless 20 Chinese Christians with a Bible to share amongst themselves. Proverbs 13:7 (New King James Version) 7 There is one who makes himself rich, yet has nothing; And one who makes himself poor, yet has great riches. We hoarde our wealth and save and make investments and have all the best of the world and what have we got? Then we get a person in India who gives his life to Jesus, loses his family, his position and even his job and he becomes so rich in the wisdom of God. Some people without theologians teaching them read, If you will come after me, sell what you have, give to the poor and you will get reward in heaven, and come follow Me and guess what this Hindu does? He does it and is blessed with the secret counsel of the Lord and is anointed with a powerful ministry in return. Take the life of Sudhu Sundar Singh for a case in point. He was offered riches from his father and uncle that would mean he and his future wife would never have to work in their life and he denied that and was kicked out of his house shortly after as he would not deny his new found faith in Jesus Christ. Many Hindus find Jesus shortly before suicide; I have only known a few testimonies and all of them were suicidal before conversion and all devout Hindus who couldnt find truth in all their studies.
Proverbs 13:13 (New King James Version) 13 He who despises the word will be destroyed, But he who fears the commandment will be rewarded. Jesus said:
Luke 6:30 (New King James Version) 30 Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. So we have a command from Jesus here and people who despise this word of Jesus can be destroyed. But to the giver, he will be rewarded. So who are the brethren in the sheep and the goats parable? Well I dont know the answer, but we are commanded to love our neighbour as we love ourselves and Jesus said our neighbour is a stranger from a despised culture. Jesus asks us to give to everyone who asks of us and guess what? I do it! Its a simple command to build your faith. Fearing the Lord is obeying the Lord and the commands. Refusing a person who comes to you for spare change is not loving your neighbour. Proverbs 24:23 (New King James Version) 23 These things also belong to the wise: It is not good to show partiality in judgment. Many people if asked by a man in a suit who has said that he lost his wallet in a taxi and needs money for a fare home would hand him some change. But if asked by a person in jeans who has a stain on his shirt the same question we say in our heart that he is lying to us and feel justified when we dont give freely of our money. One time when I refused an elder drunken looking man, the Lord rebuked me with the sheep and the goats parable and the man who asked me for money disappeared into thin air. Not everyone gets an angel to teach them not to judge the askers by what they look like. James speaks on partiality when he says we treat the well groomed visitor with honour giving him the royal treatment and the best seats, but judge the drunk with harshness giving him the lowest seat. James warns us not to judge and seeing that Jesus did most of his preaching in the marketplace we should show mercy on the poor in the marketplaces also, for as James says, its not the poor that drag us into court battles. Proverbs 11:25 (New King James Version) 25 The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself. People who are generous will be blessed in the giving and will be blessed by the LORD. I think that modern teaching on giving fails miserably because in the modern prosperity doctrine being preached its as though we are going to get rich giving money away. If your giving is dependant on getting money back you have the wrong motive and your giving is making money your idol. When you see a poor person in need your compassion should move you to give. Jesus on one of His worst days was moved by compassion to heal, then preach, then feed 5000 people. And who gave him the food to feed all those people? A poor boy with barley loaves! Jesus fed the people from the gift of a poor boy, a bit of faith, and a Man moved by compassion. Look how much faith in God that little boy gave to poor givers all around the world. Look how many his mother who packed his lunch blessed, so too are you in the dark when you water those who water, but the LORD will bless you. How much faith can you spark in a faithful broke servant of the LORD when you send them a gift that puts food in their stomach that week or month? Remember $100 a month is a good wage in India. Proverbs 16:20 (New King James Version) 20 He who heeds the word wisely will find good, And whoever trusts in the LORD, happy is he. Giving to the LORD, giving to the poor is fundamentally not a money issue its a faith issue. Giving a tithe of your income and blessing servants in ministry with love offering and giving to the poor is basically putting trust in the LORD and his promises. Its our lack of faith and trust in God as a provider that stops us from giving and whilst some prosperity Gospels can go too far many other churches around the world are closing because of the lack of faith in their congregations. It seems the mega churches back their faith up in mega giving and they are growing. The fact of the matter is the Word of God does not return void and whilst some people are giving with distorted motives the Lord is faithful to His Word. Happy is a person that gives and He that heeds the Word will find good! Proverbs 29:7 (New King James Version) 7 The righteous considers the cause of the poor, But the wicked does not understand such knowledge. If you do not understand the needs of the poor you are not wicked. Focus on the righteous in this verse. If one Bible can bless a whole home church in China can you afford to buy one for a home church? You can bet they wont sell it, wont trade it on the stock exchange and youll be surprised that seeing as they have the five fold ministry over there that it may even go to a future Apostle, prophet or evangelist and you will be a co labourer in that Bibles harvest. Proverbs 28:27 (New King James Version) 27 He who gives to the poor will not lack, But he who hides his eyes will have many curses. Once again Jesus expanded this psalm to His Jewish audience. The person who hides his eyes is a person who does not help the broken hurting person that they can see on the street. They dont even read the cardboard sign they have begging for money. They walk past pretending that they dont see. One day I approached a person from behind playing a flute. I could see he had a cardboard sign and it wasnt facing me. The Holy Spirit said to me, Even a printed sign is asking you for money, he doesnt need to use his voice. I went up and got the change out of my pants to give to him. After I gave him three dollars, the Holy Spirit asked me, Ask him if hes like to go to lunch with you. We went to lunch and over a Turkish kebab we had a great conversation and much seed was planted in his life and he told me how the Lord always seems to bring kind people along to help him out when he ask Him to. The Holy Spirit then prompted me to give him $20 which brought this man to tears We fear giving the poor and tithing because of our fear of lack. But this promise says if we give to the poor WE WILL NOT LACK! Fishing Injuries-Are You Joking?

By A.J. Klott Who would have thought? When you think of fishing, you seldom envision too many things that can keep you from partaking in this recreational activity. Think again. I am on the disabled list. That's right, in rehab-- to much pain to cast my fly. Or my powerbait for that matter. Now, complaining about a "fishing injury" is sorta like complaining that a hangnail is keeping you from typing.OOHH poor baby! Nonetheless, I am telling you, I am in too much pain to cast. I didn't exactly get injured fishing, so if your first thought was: "What, did he pull a muscle setting the hook?" Or "Does he have 'fisherman's elbow' ?" "Did he fall out of his folding lawn chair?" You would be wrong.Although negotiating a lawn chair can be tricky business, especially while holding a beverage. Actually, I am not one hundred percent sure how I got injured, but it might have had something to do with doing a face plant--or shoulder plant to be exact-- onto the basketball floor while playing a loosely resembled game of basketball. I say loosely, because fi you saw the "brand" of basketball we play here in the "old boys" basketball league here in Southern Oregon, well--you would know what I mean. As it was, I was already nursing a pulled hamstring, when as I limped along like a struggling Wildebeast, my shoe grabbed tight hold of the freshly finished hardwoods, and dropped me like a Douglas Fir sapling. Unfortunately, my "catlike" reflexes were unable to respond to the sudden pull of gravity, and I crashed shoulder first into the floor. Sharp pain--no more basketball... ....or fishing. I now have what modern medical technology has deemed as the "torn rotator cuff". Move over Pedro Martinez, my pitching career may be over. If you have never had a torn rotator cuff, then you will not know the pain I am in. If you have, then you will understand the strange feeling of being able to pick up seventy pounds in one direction, but the problematic task of combing your hair can drop you to your knees in anguish. Luckily, I have no hair. Even trying to turn your steering wheel, wax your car or picking up a pot of chili can make you wince in pain. Of course, chili can make you wince in pain for other reasons--but that is a different story. Reaching back into the cooler for a beverage? No can do Elmo--we are talking major problems here. Naturally, it is my right arm--my casting arm-- and even though I don't exactly throw a ninety mile an hour roll cast, the casting motion definately brings out some really creative and colorful language. So, for now it is the disabled list, while I ponder surgery or therapy, hoping there is an off chance that it is really really bad tendonitis just flaring up like an air bag in my shoulder. There isn't enough ibuprofen on this planet to ease the pain when it hits you. I mentioned that I wasn't really sure how I tore the rotator cuff--because when you think about it, the art of casting is similar to the art of pitching or throwing a baseball.(baseball or throwing is probably the most common cause of torn rotator cuffs) Who is to say that the numerous hours spent trying to get just ten more feet of casting length has not taken it's toll on my casting arm.Pumping and wrestling in salmon and steelhead could surely put wear and tear on the shoulder also. Maybe I should just hang up the ol' waders and call it a career? Give up fishing? No way!! Even if I have to go back to dangling a worm and bringing in a "relief" reeler, rest assured I will be back out there soon tossing casts into mighty rivers. I just might have to work my way back up by casting on creeks and catching smaller fish during "rehab". Probably will have to pour smaller drinks too! So beware of those fishing injuries, they can really put a crimp in your fishing life. And if you see some guy stretching and warming up by tossing short casts ten feet out into the water--you just might want to ask him how his rotator cuff is doing. A.J. Klott Author, writer of fishing humor, and "fly tack" peddler.A.J. writes about the people, characters and modern day events that surround the fishing world. His first book is due out in December of 2005.

Public Records FAQ

By James Sonert Public Record I've put together a sort of FAQ on public records. Here I'll answer some of the most common questions I get regarding public record. I'll also at the end of the article try to provide some additional info that could be helpful. So let's get cracking. What are public records? As obvious as this may sound there are still many people who do not fully understand what the term public record entails. Basically, a public record is a piece of information that has been filed and recorded by public agencies. Public records are created by the government (vital records, real estate records, driving records, criminal records, etc.) or by the individual (magazine subscriptions, voter registration, etc.). Most public records are maintained by the government and many are accessible to the public either free-of-charge or for an administrative fee. Availability is determined by federal, state, and local regulations. Public records are held in physical files or in electronic form on the internet. What kinds of things can I find out in public records? There is an abundance of information you can find from looking through public records. I'll list some of the most popular things people tend to look for in public records. You could conduct a full background check on friends and family, search birth and adoption records, find lost loved ones, research your family history, and find unlisted home and cell phone numbers. This is just scratching the surface the the amount of info you can find. Where can I find public records? There are a few ways in which you can find public records. The first is by calling the government agency that holds the record you seek and asking if they can make you a copy. This shouldn't be a problem since a public record request doesn't deal with any confidential government info. The other way you can attain public records is online. The power of the internet can now bring millions of records right to your finger tips. If you do a search on google you'll find there are many free public record search engines you can use that will provide some info. Some of them include knowx.com and stealth-detective.net Additional Information: Criminal records on the national level are very easy to obtain from the government, state criminal records can be difficult to receive because they are usually held in state depositories. Some criminal records may also be withheld or edited to ensure the safety of witnesses and victims involved in the crime. I hope I've provided everyone with some useful knowledge on searching for public information. Visit http://www.public--record.blogspot.com for more information on public record. Breast Enhancing: The Story

By Ian Richards Ever since Eve put on the first fig leaf, women have been seeking ways to improve their looks. Whether it was for appeasing the gods or attracting a mate a womans appearance was changed or enhanced according to the rituals and materials available. We know that as far back as Ancient Egypt and even beyond, that women have had at there disposal, the means and probably the desire to enhance their appearance. Back then and throughout the intervening ages, women have had the wherewithal to apply makeup to the face, eyes and lips, knew about plant dyes, like henna for the skin and hair, would wear wigs of differing materials from 100% human hair, through a mix of hair and plants, down to the lowly, but still necessary total plant sourced wig. They were not only able to pluck eye brows and shave hair but in certain parts of the world, were able to physically change their bodies. In the Orient, where it was dictated that women had to have small feet, young girls feet were tightly bound so that the bones could not develop fully, it has been still going on up until very recent times. In Africa amongst certain tribes, the neck has been stretched, using a succession of rings, whilst in the Far East, Africa and South America lips and ears have been stretched by cutting and placing wooded discs within them. Not only that, but in India a man called Sushruta, nowadays called the Father of Surgery was doing nose jobs around 800 years B.C. No you are not misreading, he was reconstructing noses before Christ was born. In India the punishment for adultery, no doubt because women were making themselves more beautiful, was to have the nose cut off. He was able to reconstruct the nose by using a flap of skin from the forehead which by keeping the flap attached to the blood supply, allowed the new nose to take. The nostrils were fabricated out of tubes of wood which allowed the patient to breath via the nose. Breasts, however, were enhanced by clothing. The first known garments used to accentuate breasts were in 2000 BC when a corset-like garment was used but left the breasts uncovered, whilst strips of leather were wound around the waist and also around the curves of the breasts. Five hundred years later, Minoan warrior women wore a garment resembling a bra but instead of covering also pushed the breasts up to reveal them above the clothing. There followed a variety of different styles and clothing technology but it wasnt until around 1890 that the first breast enhancing operation was performed. This consisted of injections of paraffin which was very dangerous. As well as paraffin there were experiments using implants of ivory or glass balls despite the fact that it caused infections and the breasts to harden and form lumps it wasnt until thirty years later that the practice was completely stopped. It was replaced by the use of fatty tissue taken from the buttocks and abdomen and introduced to the breasts. This turned out to be just as disastrous because the body would reabsorb its own fatty tissue leaving the breasts lumpy. Another terrible side effect was the scarring that occurred where the fat had been removed, so that by 1940 this operation had fallen out of favour. After the Second World War, Japanese prostitutes started to have silicone injections to enlarge their breasts to cater for the American troops. This idea was taken up in America and used mainly by the topless dancers in San Francisco and then Las Vegas until in the mid sixties when due to a number of serious health problems, silicone injections were banned in the USA. During this time, a lot of experimentation was going on in the breast augmentation field, with first, polyvinyl sponges and then silicone implants. The sponges were soon discontinued when it was found that they only lasted about a year before they hardened and shrunk and had to be removed. Silicone implants continued and were modified with greater and lesser successes. The most notorious was the attempt to cover them in polyurethane foam to stop capsular contraction. Unfortunately the foam broke down and was rumoured to be carcinogenic so it was taken off the market.
Leaking from the implants was a problem and many modifications were attempted to make the implants as life like as possible whilst still retaining wall strength. There was a brief trial in Europe when soy bean oil replaced the silicone as it was though to be more natural. Alas it was found to be toxic when it broke down in the body. When saline implants were introduced, they were problematical because they sloshed around like water in a bucket, however great strides have been made and they now account for the majority of breast augmentation today. This is because if there is any leakage it is only the harmless saline solution. The latest in gel implants have been nicknamed Gummy Bears because the high strength silicone gel used is much denser than before so that even if cut they stick just like a gummy bear sweet does. They were first used in Europe in 1995 and five years later, taken up in Canada. It wasnt until 2002 that the USA approved the use of them in controlled circumstances. The benefits are that they are not prone to distort and keep their upright position and feel soft and natural. People using this new type of implants must meet the strict rules laid down by the Food and Drug Administration and must sign up to a follow up study programme. Since the beginning there have been over 200 different types of breast implants from a number of makers but all have been modified and refined many times so that now we have the safest and most natural ones ever. Making The Baked New York Style Cheesecake Recipe

By Andrew Krause The baked New York style cheesecake recipe, on its surface, looks like one of the more simple dessert recipes. It's a fairly simple set of ingredients, and the mixing and baking is fairly straightforward. So why does it so often go wrong? Well, part of the problem is in the name: cheesecake. Right there, you expect it to act like a cake in the baking process. The problem is, it's not really a cake at all. If you were to take a hundred cooking school graduates who had never heard of cheesecake and present each of them with a slice of baked New York style cheesecake, all of them would most likely identify it as a pie... or at best a custard. Let's start with the crust. Cakes don't normally have a crust other than what bakes up when they cook, right? Well, your cheesecake needs a crust or you're going to have containment issues. This is not usually a traditional pie crust, but rather a blind baked mashed-together construction made of graham crackers, cookies or other baked goods. Then there's the composition of the cheesecake itself. The baked New York style cheesecake begins life as a very thick batter that bears a vague resemblance to traditional cake batter, except for the fact that it contains little or no flour depending on your recipe. The baking is different, also. One of the secrets to New York style cheesecake success is a fairly moist baking environment, which means using a water bath. Have you ever seen a cake recipe that called for the pan to be placed in a larger pan with water in it? So, for cheesecake success, you might want to stop thinking about it as a cake. Think of it as a pie-cake hybrid, or better yet as a custard that needs some extra care in the preparation, but will yield sweet rewards when it's done. The baked New York style cheesecake recipe is simple, but can be unforgiving if you don't treat it right. How Would You Like A Doctors Help With Weight Loss?

By Mike Bastian The world of weight loss is full of gimmicks, pills and fads. Most of the people who use the fad diet pills die out quickly as they don't achieve the great success story they are looking for immediately. The gimmicks are even worse as they are simply that a "gimmick". They launch a huge preemptive advertising campaign and then strike at the best times. Ever notice that there are more Spring time commercials for weight loss?? Ever notice that the same trend holds true when it is about time to schedule your vacation to Florida, The Caribbean or some other exotic locale? What most people don't realize is that all facets can be combined. You can lose weight, tone up and achieve any type of physique you want. If you have the right program to follow. There is no real quick solution outside of surgery. This option is usually not available to the ordinary citizen and advertisers know this. Ever talk with a physician about weight loss? They will advise you what to do but don't provide guarantees like the pill and gimmick folks do. The reason for this is the look you want to achieve is entirely within your reach. However individuals tend to not recognize this fact. Due to basic human nature we all look for the "easy way"and figure rather than follow a laid out program and exercise, popping a pill and sitting on the couch are much more achievable. If you seriously and honestly look at why individuals fail at achieving any success whether it is for weight loss or to get the toned body they want the previous statement will hold true 80% of the time. If there was a program that could combine both a doctors' advice and simple to follow instructions most people would be more inclined to follow. I personally believe that if weight loss is your primary goal there are programs that can help. If eating healthier is your goal this too can be achieved. However, what if you could combine the two and get the same result? Then you may actually stick with the program. I recently reviewed Meal Plan Basics and found that it has several different programs to offer. There are free video tutorials and lots of bonuses included with the program You can read my review at mikeeysreviews.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Mike_Bastian http://EzineArticles.com/?How-Would-You-Like-A--Doctors-Help-With-Weight-Loss?&id=446790 can you charge someone interest in a personal loan in nj

Fruit Trees - How To Save Your Fruit Tree Blossoms From A Spring Freeze

By Steve Boulden In most parts of the country it's still dead of Winter. However, in a few spots like here in the Desert Southwest, the warming weather starts to play tricks on Spring budding trees and plants. They think it's time to wake up when it's really not quite safe to. In my own garden, I have an old Peach Tree that produces the most wonderful almost softball size peaches. And up until a few years ago, I rarely got the opportunity to see one make it past the blossom stage. As sure as the first warm days would wake the old tree up in a display of absolute pink, so surely would a Springtime freeze bring it to an end. But then one day a few Springs back..... I had a great idea. It was a little overdue but still quite fortunate that I picked those first warm Spring days to take down and put up the Christmas lights. Because as I held those lights in my hands and looked over at that beautiful pink tree just coming into its glory, a light bulb turned on in my head. Hmmm....., are you thinking what Im thinking? I'm sure you are and it does work. From then on I've been able to get the majority of my blossoms to the point of battling birds and June bugs. However, battling the birds and June bugs will be another article altogether. While I am more comfortable to grow more fruit trees now, I find that this method still works well for me because I do only have a few trees. I'm not sure how practical, cost effective, or easy it would be to string Christmas lights through more than a few trees. If you do ever use this method, use the old fashioned base type bulbs and not the little twinkling lights. They put off more heat. Also, if you live in an area where the climate is harsher than here in the desert, it may be helpful to place a sheet of plastic or tarp over the trees in addition to the lights. While there are other ways of protecting your trees and plants from a freeze, I just thought I would share this little bit of garden wisdom with you. Written by Steve Boulden.
