Admission Essay

By Aaron Schwartz The time that the students spend in college is the time when every single second should be dedicated to getting more knowledge and experience. Of course, books can give us a lot of information about culture, economy and the experiences of other countries. As studying in college is one of the main ways leading to the accomplishment of my academic and career goals I need this information and I do get it from books. Nevertheless, the best ways to get the knowledge about any country are obtained through having encounters between students with diverse backgrounds and experiences. A student gets significantly more information from live experience and in addition to that he learns how to interact with different people performing different cultures. College is a perfect place for this cultural exchange and making conclusions on the basis of the experiences learned. Understanding the culture and the experiences of people of different backgrounds is the key to seeing the advantages and disadvantages of what we have now. And this concerns any sphere of life and every field of science. I believe, that to make the interaction between the students more productive in the sphere of experience exchange I can draw the portrait of a potential classmate that I truly believe I will learn from. The cultural background of the classmate has no real importance it can be a person from any country and any religion. Nevertheless, it has to be a person that is not superficial in his views but can motivate each of the statements he or she makes. A person that does truly know and deeply understand his own culture and does not feel superior over the other students. This classmate is always eager to share his opinion and to face confrontation in class in the first place. It is widely known that the opinion forms according to the experience of a person. And it will be especially cognitive and interesting to hear the opinion of this classmate and to organize a discussion on the given topic. It has to be a person who is not afraid to speak his mind in public, a confident person able to oppose and with a strong system of values to prevent conformism. To support this type of discussions, especially during informal interactions a potential classmate also needs to show understanding towards the experience of other people, respecting it. The primary goal of the encounters with this classmate will be learning new aspects in different fields of knowledge that can somewhat improve the knowledge I already have. At the same time he needs to be able to learn to and to compromise when it is required. In other words it has to be a very flexible person with very strong academic knowledge and various experiences. Such a classmate can make the time spend in college unforgettable and very saturated with useful information. But to achieve this we all need to show an ability to communicate with people of different cultural backgrounds, different life experiences and points of view. Having the classmate with the qualities above will keep my experience in college on the most possible level productivity. College - Faculty and Instruction

By Amy Chapman When it comes time to select a college, students need to choose one that meets their needs. Faculty and the strategies/tools that they use to instruct their students are two areas that should be examined. The nuts and bolts of a community college are the faculty and their methods of instruction. As foundations to any school, they play an important role in community colleges across the nation.
The profession of teaching produces different types of people. The community college faculty member is an individual, who rarely writes for publication. This is just one of many differences between university and community college faculty. Studies reveal that community college faculty members are willing to endure the displeasure of the workplace, in order to help others become educated. Todays community college has an expanding enrollment and low academic achievement. Faculty members are given the task of working with increase class size, along with diverse levels of academic success. Even with little control of these influences, the community college staff is resolved to provide an education to everyone. Many community college faculty members hold a masters degree or an expanded work experience in a specific field. When asked, Why do you work at a community college? Most would respond that they love to teach. Enjoying a subject or certain content area is something that community college faculty members share with their students on a daily basis. When it comes to earning a doctoral degree, a majority of community college staff members dont hold one. It is an unspoken belief among community college staff that doctoral degrees produce researchers, not educators. However, faculty members do continue to gain knowledge in their field, either through additional classes or actual work experience. This fact brings to light an interesting phenomenon. In most educational institutions in America, instructors are full time employees. However, in community colleges, the number of part time employees has increased each year. The main reason for the expanding numbers of part time employees is money. Community college budgets have gradually shrunk. Part time employees dont cost the colleges as much as full time faculty and they can be dismissed and employed quickly. There are other benefits. These part time faculty members usually continue to work elsewhere, usually in a position in which they are teaching. This direct link to the real world provides students the opportunity to learn current skills and knowledge. The connection with real life situations and future workplace environments has been the hallmark of community colleges. Guiding students into a profession or establishing a pathway for continued education has been its goal. During the past decade or more, technology has been a great resource for making these connections. Technology continues to be used in a numerous ways, as a tool for enhancing teaching or as a means of instruction. It has become a powerful instrument on community college campuses. Today, students are able to take courses through a variety of forms of media, such as the Internet, satellite T.V., and phone. This has given students the flexibility that is sometimes needed, in order to pursue a degree. Faculty members have also discovered that different technologies are the ideal means to present a concept in class. Students are given an opportunity to work with real-life technologies that will prepare them for the next step in their career. There are questions that still lie ahead. What will community colleges look like in the future? Will community college faculty continue to have the same demands of large classes and diverse knowledge levels? What new technologies will be developed to help instruction and faculty? All of these questions are wonderful to ponder. A Winter Rose

By Bill Watson How to prepare any rose for winter always depends on temperature. In general, if in your area during winter the temperature drops to minus 10 degrees F or lower then any rose bush will need some protection. Note: If you live in a area that has a mild winter then most of the following will not apply. However, the advice on fertilizing and watering in general does. (In mild winter areas a rose never really goes dormant though does require a season of rest). Whether you have a hybrid tea, floribunda, tree rose, miniature or climber the goal is always the same... To protect the crown and roots of the plant from the worst of the winter cold and possible mid-winter thaws and re-freezings. In the case of climbing roses and tree roses you will also need to protect the upper parts (long canes for climbers and top flowering crown for rose standards) as well. Preparing a rose for winter will always start in spring ( yes, I did mean spring). Any rose that has had a long and well tended growing season will be better able to tolerate the worst any winter has to offer. Throughout the growing season be sure to water a rose deeply (allow the soil to dry to a depth of 2 inches or so before watering again, the root system needs air too) and fertilize regularly which will encourage a deep and healthy root system as well as healthy canes and flowers. Roses store nutrients in their woody canes and so the bigger the plant the healthier it will be. Maintain a routine of pest and disease prevention as well as careful pruning to remove spindly growth and damaged or diseased canes. About mid to late August stop fertilizing though do continue to water deeply (never let the roots of a rose completely dry out). About late September stop cutting blooms and allow a few rose hips to develop which will be a signal to the plant that it's dormant period is approaching. Once you have had a few good frosts, leaves will start falling. Apply a dormant spray such as lime sulfur or a dormant oil spray. This will kill pests and fungal diseases that might try to over-winter on the plant or surrounding soil. It can also help nudge those final leaves off. Rake leaves from around your plants and throughout your yard to prevent the spread of disease or a place for pests to hide. Continue watering only as needed until the first hard frost and the ground is frozen. At this point cover the base (crown) of the plant and the surrounding soil (about 12 inches around the base of the plant) with a thick layer of straw, leaves or mulch and then cover with a few inches of soil. Do not remove soil from around the plant to cover the crown, that soil is needed to insulate the rest of the surrounding roots. Instead, use soil from another part of the garden. Climbing roses require the same protection listed above and in addition will need to have their long canes protected as well. Carefully remove the canes from the trellis, fence or wall they are tied to, lay them on the ground and cover with a thick layer of straw, leaves or mulch and a few inches of soil just like the base of the plant. Tree roses are a special case in that not only do you need to protect the base and "trunk" of the plant but the top flowering crown as well. There are 3 ways to over-winter a rose standard if it is planted in the ground. One, is to dig the plant up keeping a good sized root-ball and "heal" the plant into a large container then move it into a shed or garage for the winter. As spring approaches the plant is brought back outside and re-planted in the ground. The second method is to carefully remove some soil from one side of the plant and bend it until it is laying on its side and then covering the entire plant with a thick layer of straw, leaves or mulch and 3 to 4 inches of soil. This method can be tricky for the novice gardener as there is a danger of cracking or breaking the plant at one of its grafting points. The third method may be the easiest for a ground planted tree rose. First, wrap the entire plant in a thick layer of straw and burlap taking care to fully protect the plant from top to bottom. Secure everything with either clips, string, twine or wire and after taking a few measurements construct a ply-wood box (with an open bottom) to place around or over the plant. Rose standards that are planted in containers are the easiest to care for. After following the advice for preparing a rose for winter listed above, simply move into a shed or garage where the temperature will be milder than the temperature outside. Check the soil now and then to make sure the roots do not dry out (water lightly when needed) and move back outside once the danger of frost has past. Late winter - early spring: When there is no longer a danger of a killing freeze uncover your roses and water deeply if needed. Once new growth starts to appear is when you'll want to prune. Remove any damaged or spindly canes and prune back healthy canes by 1/3 to 1/2. Then fertilize and follow all the steps necessary to promote healthy vigorous plants for the entire growing season. Keep A Journal For Your Depression

By Justin Meyer Internet journals are increasing daily. People use them to communicate with the world at large, political candidates use them to spread their message, even companies have started using them for advertising. In the end though, these are just another medium for an age-old practice. Keeping a journal. Why should you keep a journal? Well it lets you get things out that you may have difficulty saying to other people. Some people find it cathartic to be able to write things out as they happen, or shortly after the fact. Other times, it can serve as a log of how you feel when things happen, which can be especially useful if you have problems remembering emotions (that can sometimes be a side-effect of depression). This way you can reference it later and find things that you want to point out to a therapist. What kind of journal should you keep? This depends on you. Some people find the feel of pen on paper comforting and prefer that kind of journal. If you lose it, however, then it is gone. There are journals that are kept on your computer, if you prefer typing. You can type it out, save it to a hard drive. If you have a laptop, you even have the portability of a hand-written journal. Unfortunately, you still have issues regarding keeping the journal. A virus on your computer, or a power-failure and you can lose what you wrote. It can also send your journal onto the internet without your choosing. Finally, there are internet journals. They are already on the internet, but could be read by anybody. Even if you lock them, they can be read unintentionally. Obviously, no solution is perfect, but there are advantages to having a journal. By keeping one, you can make sure that you are tracking your road to health and keep yourself encouraged in many ways. Recalibrating Professional Service Provider Relationships

By Richard Hall Calibration: The act of checking or adjusting (by comparison with a standard) the accuracy of a measuring instrument - English dictionary Most people associate calibration with instruments such as a thermostat or police radar gun. We calibrate or check to ensure that the instrument has retained absolute accuracy of performance. However, we also see an extension of this word as recalibration and its association with the business world, specifically with service provider relationships. Typically, recalibration involves starting with a failure of a particular model or relationship, identifying the problem, and fixing or strengthening it. Just as with calibration, recalibration in business can make or break a company. Today, many companies, small and large, are turning to outsourcing, which enables the organization to be more efficient and cost effective. Global outsourcing has become a controversial subject, and now plays a strong role in our economy. For small or start-up companies, outsourcing provides a way to build a successful business on a budget. A one-man office could take a portion of the operations, outsource them for a fraction of the cost of hiring someone full-time, and begin to establish that company. For large companies, outsourcing provides the opportunity to save money, thus increasing the bottom line and making shareholders happy. Additionally, outsourcing can enable penetration into new markets that would not be possible without the addition of local partners. In choosing to outsource, companies must fully evaluate their business needs, how outsourcing will contribute to the organization and the value of the service being outsourced. Many organizations outsource activities and functions which are not their core competencies. In example, a technology firm with proprietary software might outsource content development for their marketing collateral. However, a firm that markets service as one of their core competencies would likely refrain from outsourcing their customer call center. Outsourcing Legal activities have been a commonplace practice for many years. Even firms with in-house counsel outsource certain activities to outside counsel. In any area of business, the goal of outsourcing is to create greater operating efficiencies and ensure that internal teams are free to work on critical value tasks. While outsourcing legal activities is not a new practice the way in which those relationships are managed has changed. As the practice of outsourcing has expanded businesses have begun to view these outside contractors in a different light. Once viewed as work-for-hire those that perform outsourced work are now viewed as essential business partners, or an extension of the core work force. Outsourced law firms should be integrated into business activities and no longer viewed as a function that happens in a silo. In-house counsel gains specialized knowledge and a broader knowledge base from outsourcing. These relationships need to be effectively managed to ensure the continuing value and successful outcomes. The business aspect of outsourced relationships needs to be managed as well as the communication aspect. Are the processes and methodologies being improved? Are you achieving the desired business results from the relationship? Are you achieving greater efficiencies by outsourcing? Work cannot simply be outsourced without a process of evaluation and measurement. As for those that survive from outsourced work, their view too has changed. No longer content to perform a one time service, they are extremely focused on service and value realizing that it is critical to build long term relationships to sustain business, and that is a win-win proposition for both sides. One Day to Live

By E. Raymond Rock If you had only one day to live, what would you do? You might first take care of your loved ones by making sure that all of your financial affairs, and any loose ends are tidied up. Then you might get a hold of anyone that you need to say something to. Surprisingly, you would more often than not have something nice to say. Faced with only a day, the fear that feeds resentment melts away. Then you might eat some ice cream, or smoke a few cigarettes, maybe watch a sunset for the last time, noticing how exquisitely beautiful it is, and maybe pet your dog. And that night, you would hold the one you love, very tight, and notice how beautiful she is as well, and always has been. Then you might reflect on your life; the mistakes you made, the triumphs, thinking not only of your own successes, but the assistance you received from all the unselfish people in your past, the ones you never remembered, until this day; the ones that helped you out. Maybe you will wonder what in the world you were thinking about when you gambled away so many possibilities of expressing love. My, how quickly life goes by. And perhaps you now understand, at last, the really important things, and how you could have made life so much easier for so many others. But you did the best you could with what you had, and as Frank Sinatra once said,You did it your way. And you might wonder, why cant I live each day like this, as if its my last? Such a good question. What is it, exactly, that moves your attention off things that are so important? Why is it that you seem to think you have so much time left to do these things later? You can never be sure you know. You might have only a day. E. Frustrated With Online Dating? Nobody Checkin' You Out?

By Jennifer L. Hunt If you want to meet someone online, theres one thing that youll definitely want to do - post a good, recent, smiling photo of yourself. If you can post more than one, even better! Why upload your photo? A Picture Is Worth 1000 Emails. Statistics have consistently shown that profiles with photos get a minimum of 10 times more looks. Many (actually most) people only search for profiles with photos. (Admit it. You do it too.) That means that if you dont have a photo, people are not going to look at your profile. You might as well delete it, close out you account on Match.com, and head to you favorite bar. I understand that you may be a little afraid to post your picture on the internet , but it will be very difficult to meet anyone worthwhile online without one. Think about it. Put yourself in someone elses place. Would you contact someone without a photo? When you search, dont you want to see people with pictures? The old saying that a picture is worth a 1000 words still applies. Your age, height, and hobbies may sound cool, but is that enough to pay cold hard cash to contact you? Even if someone does contact you, the first thing theyll want to know is what you look like . Also, many people dont really trust the internet and may feel that youre hiding something if you dont post a photo - like your spouse and kids. They may assume youre cheating on your partner or even that youre a criminal. Your photo makes you real. It gives you an identity. With online dating, your photo can create a spark or chemistry that mere words cannot. Remember, most dating sites charge money to communicate with someone, so making that step to contact you or to respond to your message involves a bit of commitment, and not having a picture is just one more reason not to do it. Just like updating your profile frequently, posting a photo will often get you placed at the top of the search results - above members without photos . Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. One reason you might not post a photo is because you think youre ugly, or fat, or unattractive in some way. First of all, youre probably wrong. Dont worry about how you look. Youll have to show yourself eventually! Even the best looking people look ugly when they dont smile. So smile! If youre not conventionally attractive, a confident, genuine smile can only do you good. There are lots of techniques to make sure your photo is the best it can be. You can crop or otherwise enhance you photo to make sure that your best side shows through. Most digital cameras come with free software that will help you do basic photo editing. Even if you use a 35mm camera and take to the store for development, most film developers offer the option of a digital CD of your pictures. Tips for Winning Photos Use a recent photo . Even if you looked better when you were 20 pounds lighter and five years younger, the moment your date sees you in real life, theyll realize that you have lied to them. Yes LIED! Thats how the other person will perceive it. Use a good camera. Even though most cell phones these days take photos, they often turn out fuzzy or dim. If you dont have a good camera, get creative. Ask a friend to take your picture or go to photographer and have a professional photo taken (Isnt it worth it to invest in a professional photo if it brings you your dream partner?). Head shots are best - we want to see your face. Really! Your picture should be fun, sexy, and interesting - not a mug shot and not pornographic either (unless you on an adult site, like AdultFriendFinder, that encourages that sort of photo). Many people, however, are turned off by overly sexy photos. DONT post a photo of you and your ex or a photo where your ex has been cut out or colored out. This implies that you have no pictures of yourself where there isnt some other person attached to you. It also implies that people are disposable to you - not good! Avoid posting photos with your kids. I know theyre important to you (I love mine unconditionally), but giving them too much prominence in your profile leads others to think youre looking for a replacement dad or mom, rather than a partner for yourself. Mention them in the profile and then send pictures if your prospect expresses interest. Having said that, if youre looking for a replacement mom or dad - be honest about that too and save yourself the grief and heartache later on. Need A Professional Quality Digital Photo? Here are two websites that will take your picture for you. I was amazed by what these guys can do and highly recommend them. Manifesting Your Life With Quantum Physics

By Jacqueline Cimini Your first reaction to the title of this article is: What? prepare to be enlightened. Basically, the Holographic Projector Room is a room equipped with quantum physics devices invented by Dr. Fred Bell. The devices are actually called Andromedan Holographic Projectors, and employ scalar wave technology. Lets backtrack just a bit, with a brief explanation of quantum physics. Basically, quantum physicists view objects as both particles and waves, and use the term wave function instead of any precise value for the objects attributes, thereby viewing the object as a wave of probability, which can change (in a wavelike manner) at any number of different frequencies. If that what? came back, consider this: when an object is viewed, it always occurs as we expect it. It performs a quantum jump, transforming from a range of vibrating possibilities, into a single, observable (and expected) function. If you are familiar with Schodingers cat (a cat placed in a closed box might only exist when you look in the box, and disappears to another place when you are not looking), you are getting close to quantum explanations. Of course, cat-people understand that cats exist outside of our known universe! The mind-blowing part of this quantum physics stuff is too much fun to fit in one worldmainly: YOU, the Observer, create Reality by what you expect. Now, if that is true, that means you create your own Realityso isnt it a good idea to start really thinking about that? Think about what Quantum Physics might really be: the Science of Manifestation. You might know that for something to be scientifically proven, it must be verifiable and reproduciblewhich brings me to the reason for this article. Being a person who really loves interesting new experiences, I had to put together my own room utilizing the projectors (of course). Being scientifically minded, I also had to conduct a study: The Effect of Scalar Technology on Consciousness. The study was on 12 people and a dog (the dog proved to be the Enlightened Being in the group) and consisted of one 15-minute session in the room, weekly, for eight weeks. Several parameters were measured: radiation levels, blood pressure, pulse, happiness, resonant field levels, and several other things. As in most studies, everyone was treated the same, and every variable that could be controlled was taken care of. The astounding findings are these: EVERY PARTICIPANT IMPROVED, ACROSS ALL PARAMETERS! The dog enjoyed it also, and was very happy the humans finally understood doghood better. The scientist was amazed to find (with the resonant field imaging detector) that the frequencies in the room changed according to what the person in the room asked to bring into manifestation. Wow! said the scientist (me), so thats how it works!Having a light-bulb over the head moment, I realized so many amazing things at once, that I am unable to convey even 1/1000th at presentIll be working on these concepts for the rest of my life. What I did not know about using scalar technology is this: it worksfast. What does this mean for you? It means you start remembering how to manifest joyfully, and you remember YOU are responsible for your creation. In other words, using the projector room puts you in touch with who you really are, easily. No sweat, no muss, no fuss; just results. So, are you wondering just what is a scalar device? Perhaps a description of the Andromedan Holographic Projector is in order: In careful study of the Projector as viewed from the front, you'll notice a de-spiraling pattern that collapses into an infinity pattern. These space penetrating design patterns, in turn, create two scalar fields that collapse into themselves. This creates a doorway into the holographic structure of the universe. The two three-sided pyramids move the energy, starting with the mental plane, following energies through the other six planes simultaneously. This creates a merger of consciousness and the holographic nature of space and time In order to enter an infinite number of dimensions within our Eighth Parallel Universe (recommended reading: "Rays of Truth-Crystals of Light" by Dr. Fred Bell for more information), we need to have a key to open the door. That is what the projector does. When the projector opens these doors, the world will begin to feel the subtle holographic changes that will instantaneously rearrange everything, as we know it today. The first thing that will happen when wearing a Projector is your personal Universe will change.Unlike the Nuclear Receptor, which allows your body to process negative energies, the Projector removes negative energies before they were created in the first place. Therefore, not only did they not ever reach you; any effect they could have had is gone!(Courtesy Dr.Fred Bell) Dr. Bell has been a Pleiadian and Andromedan contactee for a good many years, and has been the recipient of many interesting quantum physics designs.
It might help to note here that Dr. Bell is also a physicist who, at age 14, was not only working at the University of Michigan on nuclear energy projects, but was also inducted into the U.S. government's project called M. K. Ultra. The Andromedan Holographic Projectors are a project that Dr. Bell developed in the last few years. Since placing a set of the projectors in his own home, Dr. Bell has had a Star gate open up right in his living room. In fact, during a documentary that was being filmed in that living room, the Star gate opened spontaneously (and was filmed for all posterity)! When the Star gate opens, one is able to notice a dimensional distortionkind of like a disturbance on the surface of water, but with light. To say this is interesting is obvious; to experience being IN it is something hard to describe. The most common reaction is a sort of dizzy feeling, along with a profound peaceful excitation. At the least, it is a very relaxing experience. At the Natural Resonance Clinic, in Sedona, Arizona (the Arizona distributor for the projectors and other Dr.Bell products), you can experience the projectors for yourself. The clinic Holographic room is set up in a general healing configuration (not the Star gate pattern), which has resulted in very quick changes for most people. Shall I mention the sighting of various inter-dimensional beings by those who have psychic vision? Many anomalies such as dimensional warping have also been noted in the room, as well as perceived time changes. During the research study, there were days that the room was hoppin!, so much so that those of us outside the room felt Beings inside the room touching and calling to us. Now, before you run off screaming about demons and such, let me assure you that other devices protect the office. These devices are necessary due to the tendency of energies to increase together: if you increase the positive energies, you automatically increase the negative. What might you do with this increase of positive energy; could you send it in a direction that might bring your desires to you quicker? Yes, you could indeed help yourself; you might even call it increasing your good luck. Further studies are planned. In the meantime, you can have the unique experience in the beam at the clinic, at 6050 hwy 179, Ste.5, Sedona, AZ 86351. Call (928)284-0906 for further information. Spice It Up with Salsa

By Eric Vinje People have been spicing up their meals with salsa for hundreds of years. In fact, salsa, the condiment, not the dance, has been around for centuries and can be traced back to the Aztecs, Mayans and Incas of present-day Mexico. In the United States, salsa, which means "sauce" in Spanish, has outsold ketchup since the 1990's. And there are just as many variations of salsa, if not more, as there are ways to make a good spaghetti sauce. For example, most American salsas contain tomato. But the tomato in a homemade salsa can be fresh and raw, cooked or even tomato paste. It's up to the maker. (Originally salsas from Mexico didn't contain tomatoes and mainly used chiles, tomatillos and ricado, a blend of spices.) Although hot peppers predominate, salsas can also be spiced up with ingredients such as cilantro, cumin and oregano. Some folks even add garlic to their salsas. Beans are another healthy variation to the salsa mix. Black beans tend to be the bean of choice for salsa makers because of their texture and taste. They are low in fat and also contain protein and fiber. A final advantage to beans: they "mellow out" the heat from the peppers added to salsas, particularly hotter chile peppers such as habanero, serrano or even jalapeno. Sweet salsa ingredients can include mango, passion fruit, papaya, raspberries, as well as lemon, lime, orange and chiles. Some people add plantains or even nuts. Pretty much any fresh sauce can be a salsa. The major traditional types of salsa include: salsa cruda, picante, salsa fresca, salsa rojo and salsa verde. Salsa cruda means uncooked and is made from finely chopped uncooked ingredients such as raw tomato, hot chiles, peppers, onion and cilantro. Picante means "hot and spicy," and is usually just a thinner sauce than your typical salsa cruda. Salsa fresca means "fresh sauce" and is your typical American salsa. It's usually a mixture of chopped tomatoes, chiles and onions. Salsa rojo literally means "red sauce" and its foundation is the tomato. Salsa verde means "green sauce" and it is typically made from tomatillos, which are green. (For the record, tomatillo is not a tomato, in spite of its name, but instead is a reportedly a relative of the gooseberry. It is a tart, green fruit with a papery husk. It resembles a green, unripe tomato in appearance.) Our offerings at Cosmic Chile show how many different kinds of salsa exist. Offerings range from a traditional salsa like Jose Goldstein's XXX Garlic, made out of habanero peppers and plenty of fresh garlic, to something more exotic like Thai Jungle Salsa, which contains three types of thai chiles, lemon and soy sauce. Salsa is not only fun, it's healthy. Their major ingredients are vegetables which are low in calories, rich in vitamins and are low fat. They are simple to prepare and an easy way to dress up grilled chicken, fish, meat or pork for a quick meal during the week. Salsa is also a great snack when paired with chips. So next time you run out of something to have for a quick, but fun dinner during the week, try adding a little salsa to your entree. This article was written by Eric Vinje of Cosmic Chile.

Nobody Has Ever Gotten Skinny By Doing Situps,Ever

By Slade Gray One of the largest myths surrounding the search for a slimmer waistline is the proclaimed benefits of abdominal exercises. We are surrounded by infomercials touting drastic weight loss due to ab-rollers, sit-up benches, and ab chairs. The quick fixes and testimonials surrounding such machines are almost completely false. The benefits of a rigorous abdominal exercise routine are almost nonexistent in the battle to slim down and lose fat. Simply put: Sit-ups and ab-crunches will not make you skinny. This myth ranks as one of the most overlooked and misunderstood in the fitness world, yet the market for abdominal machines continues to grow. Here is why. Sit-ups, crunches, and targeted ab routines build muscle but simply do not burn fat. The common sit-up or crunch is a contraction of your abdominal muscles which in turn will enlarge and define your stomach muscles. The surrounding fat around the waistline can only be substantially reduced with proper cardiovascular work and healthy eating. An abdominal contraction does almost nothing to battle the unwanted stomach due to the fact that a resistance exercise, such as the sit-up does almost nothing as a means of losing fat. Doing sit-ups as a means of slimming your waistline is as silly and comparable to doing bicep curls in hopes to create skinner arms. It just isnt the case so use common sense. There is no such thing as targeted weight loss. Working a particular bodily area in order to target fat stores is another myth. The body and its means of storing fat, does so in a uniform fashion. That is, a pound of fat, when gained is spread uniformly around all parts of the body. A bit in the face, some on the stomach, some on the ankles and so-on. When we lose weight it comes off in an identical fashion. That is, we have no control over where the fat is lost on our bodies. I am commonly asked a question by some of my female clients and that is how do I lose the fat form behind my arms?. They usually look at me with frustration as they pinch the fat on their triceps. I give them all the same answer: run, bike, stair climb, or do anything that raises your cardiovascular rate. They look at me with befuddlement as most of these activities have nothing to do with working the back side of their arms. Again, the only way to lose weight in a certain area is to lose weight in all areas of the body. The best way to do this is to pair a consistent cardiovascular routine with an eating pattern outlined in the rest of this book. Dont Abandon the Sit-ups Quite Yet. As I have stated before, by working your abdominals you are only building and refining the muscles in the stomach area. And to most, building and toning ones muscles is a good thing. However, most people who are 10 or more pounds overweight will never get to see those precious stomach muscles that they worked so hard to get. This is because the layer of fat around the stomach is covering up the abdominal muscles.
Most dont care about building muscles that wont be seen for months.they want to lose fat. The biggest problem most trainers have in regards to sit-ups and weight loss is that they know that people who are trying to slim down should better allocate their time and their exercises if they want to see slimming results. Nobody who is 10 pounds overweight or more should be over-working their abdominals as it is not an effective weight-loss tool in the battle against fat.. Case in point, if you want to lose weight, shelf the sit ups and take to cardiovascular exercise and healthy dieting.. Once you have come within 10 pounds of your optimal weight, then hit the abdominal exercises to achieve that rock-hard stomach. (Slade Gray is a graduate of The University of California at San Diego. Colloidal Silver - Time For a Comeback?

By Levi Bloom I'm sure you know what it's like to be sick. Stuffy head, running nose, sore throat, coughing, fever, and maybe even vomiting. It really sucks. And with the overuse of prescription antibiotics, you can't be sure if they will even help next time around. So it's time now to test out some alternative medicine that was actually used commonly before 1938. This product is colloidal silver, which is simply silver particles suspended in purified water. Silver was pretty popular back in the early 1900's, but it was fairly expensive to make. It slowly faded into the background once more "financially lucrative" drugs came out. Here's a little info from a couple decades ago: The March 1978 issue of Science Digest, in the article, "Our Mightiest Germ Fighter," reported: "Thanks to eye-opening research, silver is emerging as a wonder of modern medicine. An antibiotic kills perhaps a half-dozen different disease organisms, but silver kills some 650. Resistant strains fail to develop. Moreover, silver is virtually non-toxic." From what I've heard, it sounds like the silver binds to an enzyme in these single-cell organisms, and then the organism can no longer use oxygen, so it dies. You get the picture. The cool thing is, while the silver destroys these pathogens, it does not harm the cells in the surrounding body tissues. It's safe for humans, animals, and plants! And you do not develop a resistance to it like with other antibiotics. Feel free to use it for nasal drops or put it directly on cuts or burns. It's even supposed to fight athlete's foot! I started using it last year (2003) and have had pretty good luck. Even though I'm in college and live in a dormitory, I haven't been sick for more than a few days and never was I sick enough to have to stay in bed more than usual. Whenever my mom first told me to take it, I said it was worthless, but I have since changed my mind. If you want to try it out, I suggest you buy it from LifeForce International. Some other sources are quite inferior. If you're feeling sick, the sooner you try it the better! Article not evaluated by the FDA. Mind Altering

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Randall_Stafford] Randall Stafford Its a chemical imbalance. Ive heard those words so many times in the last decade, its becoming routine for Doctors to blame everything on it. Have you been listening to the News, the talk shows, the media, and other people lately. Its pathetic. I am not a doctor, or scientist of any kind. I am just an ordinary man just listening. I guess that would make me a shrink, right? Nope, I not that either. Now, I grew up in a house where mother took prescription drugs by the handfuls. She had 3 doctors, 2 or 3 pharmacist, and naturally she smoked 3 packs of cigarettes per day. Some doctors gave her uppers while some gave her downers. Some gave her in-between-ers. No, that was a joke. She took diet pills and she took blood pressure pills. She had asthma and bronchitis. If you read any of my stories in the past, you know the doctor told her that she needed to start smoking to build her lung up since one of them was taken out. I dont need to go into that here. You wonder where I am going. It appears that every doctor around is selling mind altering drugs. I want a full explanation to what Chemical Imbalance is. If its a vitamin deficiency then shouldnt we give the person a banana instead of a liver killing pill? I was diagnosed as having arthritis in the lower back. I told the doctor, lets cure it. He said, there is no cure. We can treat it. But you may as well get used to it. Bull S___. Im not going to get used to it. Treat it! What he means is, you can pay me every month and become a permanent customer. No way. The only way thatll happen is if I bow down to that crap. Guess what happened next? I showed signs of depression. Now why on earth would I be depressed. All this time I thought I was out of shape and now I find out that I have some sort of incurable disease! Should that make me happy? Of course not. I bet you know what the doctor did. You got it. He started writing a prescription for depression. Im wondering about the arthritis and he writing a prescription for my head. Something is totally wrong here. I have a little experience with this mind altering crap. Most likely, I am wrong according to all the pen writing legal drug dealers. You must keep in mind throughout this whole story that this is just my opinion. Nothing more! I have no intentions to sway any person away from the advice of their doctors. Its not my fault they still need practice. My kid Lewis was 7 years old and started 2nd grade. Boy was he happy. He was like a wild horse. The teacher couldnt get him to pay attention to her in class so instead of letting him go out and burn that energy up, she punishes him by making him sit in the room while everyone else goes out and plays. Later, she convinces my part time wife that my son Lewis belongs on ridlin. The once happy boy turned into a Zombie. That was 17 years ago. Hes also been in jail since the age of 15. I wonder if turning him onto drugs at an early age did anything to him. Shoot, no wonder our kids are fatter than we want them to be. We are not happy when they are running so we shoot em full of drugs to slow them down. Why not run them. More exercise would have done Lewis better than sitting him in a corner. Oh yeah, I know, those doctors have been trained. Trained at what? To collect money, keep your kids sick so that they have a never ending supply of patients. In my opinion, the doctors have too many patients. Half the time, you sit out in the waiting room for an hour after your appointment and then they call you to wait another 30 minutes in a closed room. Yes, I do believe there is a cure for cancer, arthritis, colds, and other things. I just dont believe they are through using the term PRACTICE here in the US. Now dont get me wrong. I am an American and proud of it. I just aint to proud of our government right now. Maybe I should be attacking the FDA or whatever they call their selves. Is it all about the money? Is everything about Lies? I read somewhere that we are living longer now than we did a hundred years ago. If this is true, are we feeling better or are we living longer with PAIN? I dont know about you but it seems like every time you turn around someone tells you they are bi-polar. Geesh! Who knows, I may be bi-polar too according to the definition. However it fits my marriage better. My marriage has been bi-polar for years. I may have even had ADD or whatever. I remember going to a superman movie and dreaming that I was superman and I could not pay attention in class. To be quite honest, I dont pay much attention now. Its called being bored. With what I have learned, some doctors call it a chemical imbalance while others call it a vitamin deficiency. Maybe they are not the same. Maybe they are. Using A Word Processor For Scrapbook Journaling

By Audrey Okaneko When it comes to journaling in our scrapbooks, many of us look for alternatives to old fashioned pen and paper. I know Ive used stickers and diecuts to help write my message. I find just pen and paper sometimes are not quite what I want. Next time you want to journal, but dont wish to handwrite, consider using your computer and a word processor. There are so many ways to use a word processor to manipulate text. The very basics are to open a word document, type your text and then alter the font and sizing to your liking. You can also shade and underline words in a simple text document. Both Microsoft Word and Word Perfect have a feature called word art. In Microsoft Word, go to the insert column in the top menu. Click on picture and then word art. In Word Perfect, again go to the insert column in the top menu, then click on graphics and text art. Both programs allow you take words and make them into an arc, a circle etc. Have fun and play around with the many features of both programs and look at all of the various ways your text can appear. In Microsoft Word, once you type the text, you can click on it and youll get another menu box along side the text. If you click on the abc, which is word art shape you can choose to have your text any shape youd like. In Word Perfect, the shape is available on the first text screen. There are just so many options to choose from. You can create page titles for your pages. You can journal about a particular photo. You can make a cover page for the entire album. With these text features, you truly can match text size, shape and color to the rest of your layout, the overall theme of a page, or an entire album. After youve created your text, print it out first on a white sheet of paper to see exactly how it will look and if it needs to be moved or changed. Once you are happy with the layout of the text, insert a sheet of acid free paper into your printer and print your text. Then cut out the text according to how you want the text on your scrapbook page. You can also print the text directly on your background sheet, eliminating the need to cut the text. You can also create outline text, make it large and then color it in, according to the color theme of your page. Truly the ideas are limitless as to what you can do with computer generated text. Down the Aisle - 21st Century Style

By Croydon J Hounslow Back in the 1950s and 60s, marriage was seen as an institution fundamental to the structure and stability of society; so fundamental, in fact that it was unthinkable that a couple would live together out of wedlock. The institution of marriage was held in high importance by all echelons of society and marriage ceremonies reflected this diversity, ranging from sumptuous lavish affairs on which no expense was spared (admittedly the preserve of only the super-rich and royalty in this austere post-war era) to simple and humble gatherings with little more than good cheer and a handful of rice to bless the union. As the 1950s austerity and propriety began to give way to the colourful and flamboyant popular culture of the 1960s, common attitudes towards marriage (as with many other aspects of traditional society) began to experience something of a sea change. The idea that lovers had to have their relationship blessed by church and state in order for it to be considered valid was anathema to the free love generation, who scandalised the social old guard by cohabiting in their droves and producing innumerable bastard children. It is in fact due largely to the pioneering social reforms brought about by my parents generation that the phrase out of wedlock now sounds like some bizarre anachronism from some bygone Victorian litany. These new challenges to the old social order began to tell on the number of marriages taking place, and marriage rates began to slow down, peaking in 1970 with around 389 million UK weddings performed before entering a steady decline marriages in 2000 totalled 180 million, just over half the number that took place in 1950. Whether you believe in marriage as fundamental to the wellbeing of society or not it is undeniable that its popularity has declined sharply in recent decades, but certain key cultural indicators in the last couple of years could suggest that this downward trend may have bottomed out, and that marriage could shortly see a resurgence in popularity. The recent government decision to allow state-sanctioned civil partnerships for same sex couples whilst, in my opinion at least, a long overdue step forward in terms of sexual equality, stops some way short of actual marriage. Nevertheless, many gay and lesbian couples are treating the civil partnership as the equivalent of marriage, adopting such traditional wedding trappings as exchange of vows, blessing ceremonies and lavish receptions. At present, huge numbers of couples are taking advantage of this law, in part due to its relative newness as many have been together for years simply awaiting their chance to legally validate their union and still more are determined to take advantage of this hard-won recognition of their rights. Of course, given that the government distinguish a civil partnership from a marriage proper, the legal enshrinement of same sex coupledom will not have a direct effect on the official marriage statistics, yet it is a truism that gay and lesbian social groups often lead the pack in terms of social trends, be that in fashion, spending or lifestyle. The high number of gay celebrities taking advantage of their new legal freedoms, together with the ongoing media debate over the nature of marriage in light of this ruling, has thrust the issue of marriage into the public consciousness in unprecedented fashion, and it is no great leap of faith to imagine that this could lead an upswing in the number of traditional marriages, at least in the short term. 12 Tips For Largemouth Bass Fishing

By Tim Lee Enjoy fishing for those largemouth bass? Here are some largemouth bass fishing tips that should come in handy the next time you are ready to do a little angling. (1) Worms or tubes bought in bulk could get smelly, even outside of the bag they're stored in. You should seal these worms in smaller vacuum sealer bags like those you purchase for food storage. Keeps the largemouth bass bait airtight and fresh, so they can be stored anywhere for any length of time. (2) Fish seem to gain leverage with hard baits such as top waters, jerk baits or crank baits and can easily throw them. One solution to this is to add a split ring, putting it between the ring that is already there and the hook. This reduces the fishs leverage, which puts a greater number of fish in the live well. (3) Begin a fishing excursion before you ever reach the water. Largemouth fishing tips include formulating a plan. After executing the plan for a few hours, decide how it's working and if it's not go to plan "B". (4) Are those largemouths not cooperating? Switch to a bait you have confidence in. (5) Change fishing spots, even if you have a favorite, be sure to try new spots often. (6) You should also be willing to study a lake map and consider the season and current weather conditions even if you are fishing on a very familiar lake. You may have missed a great fishing spot. (7) Use a personal computer to discern lake levels, weather forecasts, and wind and wave conditions. (8) Be willing to change your game plan. Pay attention to your instincts. (9) Don't get ahead of yourself and set the hook as soon as you see the strike. You need to feel the fish. (10) When the largemouth short strikes behind top water bait and you don't connect you should not give up. Cast a different bait very quickly. (11) If you have been using larger lures and you have experienced only a few nonproductive bites it may be time to try something smaller. (12) Remember to take into consideration the root system when fishing a stump. The root systems may hold more fish than the main part of the stump. Now that you have these largemouth bass fishing tips, head for the water and bring in a big one. When You're Looking For A Way Out

By Annie Kaszina Im looking for a way out, but I don't trust my own judgement anymore. I have no faith in myself, or the decisions I make for myself and my kids. How do I get myself and my two teenagers out from under his control? With no money and no confidence, Id like some insight into what I can do? Most weeks, I receive emails of this type, the gist of which is: how do I get out, when I dont know where to go, what to do and feel utterly devoid of resources? What do you do when know you need to bring about huge changes in your life and the mere thought is enough to paralyse you? Mike Dooley, of whom more in a moment, famously said: You do what you can, from where you are, with what you have. And you trust. You start to trust in the nature of change. You may have reached the limits of what you know you can do, but that doesnt mean you have come anywhere near the limits of what is possible. Not by a long chalk. If nothing changes, nothing changes may be a truism, but it bears thinking about. Not least, because the opposite is equally true: If something changes, even something small, everything changes. Any change destabilizes the existing situation, albeit piecemeal, in ways that you might not even register at first. So suppose youre in this place where you feel paralysed and devoid of resources? You still do what you can, from where you are, with what you have. First of all, you honour your own courage and awareness, because you know what you want to do, despite all the brainwashing. There is something incredibly resilient inside you that will not give up and die despite all you have been through.
Every thought, every hope and dream you entertain, however fleetingly, of something better is a seed that will grow. The root system is already strong and vigorous. Then you start to do whatever you can, from where you are. One thing I assume you have, if you are reading this at all, is access to a computer. By signing up to http://www.tut.com/mmm.shtml, 5 days a week you can receive a FREE, inspirational, personalized message from the Universe (aka Mike Dooley). Brief messages like this one: "There's ALWAYS a way, Annie. Though chances are, it's not the one that first comes to mind. Tallyho, The Universe" take barely a minute to read, but cannot fail to raise your spirits and a smile. Mike Dooley has, clearly, experienced the dark night of the soul to put it poetically. His message is guaranteed to give a lift to anyone else who is there, regardless of the circumstances that cast them into that dark night. Next you continue to seek out the support you need, both from sources like "The Woman You Want To Be" ezine and from whatever groups in the real world are available to you. One thing that always strikes me when working with an abused woman for the first time, is the sense of relief and reassurance she gets from discovering that she is not the only one. Not only does she realise that it isnt her fault, but she can enter into a society of her peers, with no lies, no cover-ups and no shame. There is something incredibly powerful about sharing with other women who do understand her partners bad behaviours. And discovering that they can almost finish each others sentences and stories. Because abusive men all appear, at some point, to have attended Abusive Man School, where they learned the same threats, insults, gestures, temper tantrums, sulks and excuses. What these women have been through can never be termed funny. Still they start to see their partners temper tantrums for what they are and they laugh at the snit fits. That laughter comes from an extraordinarily profound courage and breaks the bonds that locked them into their partners moods. Its not a solution, but it does mark a big step forward. That laughter enables them to connect honestly with other people once again. So they start to break out of the isolation their partner imposed on them. Beyond that, I always urge women to find 10 things to celebrate in their day, and to celebrate them last thing at night, before they go to sleep. Again, you start from where you are with what you have. You may celebrate something your child, or a friend, has said to you. You may celebrate having a roof over your head, or enough food to eat, or the sunshine, the beauty of a flower, a childs smile. The choice is yours. Time and again, when I say this to women who are in the depths of despair, they initially assume I must be a cross between Pollyanna and a moron. And when they start to practise this, they are amazed at what a shift it brings about in their feelings about themselves and the world It wont turn an abusive partner into a nice guy, any more than Danny De Vito can turn into Brad Pitt, but it will start the process of restoring joy and confidence to your life. Once your joy and confidence start to revive so to will your intuition and your sense of empowerment. At that point, with your sense of your self and your gifts, qualities and resources in place, you will have faith in your ability to make good decisions. You will be able to get out successfully and create a better life for yourself and your children. Start the process of getting out by doing what you can, from where you are, with what you have; and trust. No need to worry about how it will pan out; the results will amaze and delight you. Just trust, commit and watch it unfold. Value of Toxic Injury Cases Compared to Workers' Compensation Claims

By Raphael Metzger While monetary recovery is limited in workers' compensation (and has been even further limited by recent legislation), monetary recovery in the third party case can be substantial. Unlike the meager benefits available as workers' compensation, injured workers have the potential of recovering substantial verdicts and settlements in their third party cases. Damages for pain and suffering are available and juries often render verdicts in seven figures for such noneconomic damages. In extraordinary cases, punitive damages may also be recoverable. Of course, workers who prove their cases to the satisfaction of juries are also entitled to past and future medical expenses, as well as past and future lost wages or lost earning capacity. It is therefore not surprising that meritorious third party toxic injury cases often settle in six and seven figures. Not all toxic injury cases are worth seven figures. A workers' damages are reduced by his own proportionate fault and that of his employer. If the worker got leukemia from occupational exposure to benzene, but most of his benzene exposure came from smoking cigarettes, the worker would only be entitled to that percentage of his damages attributable to the percentage of his occupational benzene exposure. However, in practice juries these days rarely find in favor of a worker whose cancer can be attributed even in part to smoking, alcohol, or recreational drugs. Equally problematic is the case of the worker whose occupational disease was primarily caused by an employer's gross negligence. In such cases, the worker may, however, have a meritorious serious and wilful claim in workers' compensation. Regarding S&W claims, if the worker has a decent third party case, you should not file a S&W claim against the employer, because it can be introduced as evidence against the worker in the third party case. If the jury's verdict is for the plaintiff for $1 million, but the jury finds that the employer was 95% at fault for causing the worker's injuries, the worker only recovers $50,000. So carefully consider whether you should file that S&W claim! Since so many workers suffer from occupational diseases and toxic injury cases can result in large settlements and verdicts, why haven't you heard all that much about these cases? With the exception of asbestos-related disease, few law firms litigate such cases on a third party basis, for several reasons. The cases are extremely complex and difficult, primarily because the third party attorney must not only prove that the defendant was negligent or sold a defective chemical product, but that exposure to the chemical actually caused the worker's disease. It can be very difficult to prove that a worker's cancer occurring thirty or more years after occupational exposure to a chemical was caused by that chemical. Proving causation in toxic injury cases can also be very costly. Costs in these cases typically run into six figures. Why? Many experts are necessary: a pathologist (to accurately diagnose the disease), a toxicologist (to explain the toxic effects of the chemical), an industrial hygienist (to quantify the worker's exposure to the chemical), a chemical engineer (to establish that the chemical is a defective product), an epidemiologist (to testify that workers exposed to the chemical develop the disease the plaintiff has at a significantly greater rate than those not exposed), an occupational medicine physician or medical toxicologist (to opine that exposure to the chemical caused the worker's disease based upon all the evidence and by ruling out alternative causes), a life care planner (to determine the cost of the worker's medical care), and an economist (to determine lost wages, lost home services, and to reduce the future losses to present value). Given the difficulty of proving the case, the specialized knowledge of science and medicine required, the problem of employer and worker comparative fault, and the huge costs of bringing the case, few firms choose to litigate toxic injury cases (except for asbestos cases). For these reasons, don't expect the usual one-third referral fee for such cases. Most firms that litigate toxic injury cases will pay referral fees between 15% and 25% after deduction of costs. Know You'll Be Happy With The Results Before Starting Your Diet

By David McGimpsey I received an email through my web site the other day. Karen asks, "I need to lose weight quickly. Are there ways of dropping a lot of weight in a couple of weeks?" Well, Karen, there are lots of ways to lose weight. Popular at the moment among the Hollywood-set is the skeleton diet. This diet consists of a large consumption of oxygen with three square meals of water per day. Previously, this program was known as starvation, but somewhere along the line political correctness took over and "starvation" was found to be discriminatory to aspiring young starlets. Now, I would never recommend such an eating plan (is "eating" the right word?). Terrible as it may seem, whilst weight can be dropped (and kept off) by following good eating plans, diets that allow you to turn from happy-go-lucky mom to cadaver in a couple of weeks are, in the main, not good for you (or anyone that is required to look at you for more than a few seconds without laughing hysterically at your new Halloween costume). On the serious side, there are ways that Karen and anyone else can lose weight successfully without the need to go on an oxygen-only diet. There are programs out there that when followed correctly (without the need for eating like a pigeon) show results. The most important thing to look for in any diet program are a) testimonials and b) satisfaction guarantees. If a vendor guarantees satisfaction it is a pretty safe bet they are confident you will be happy with a diet program. To your success (with apologies to Karen)! David McGimpsey's web site lists guaranteed weight loss programs.
